Taste the World - Bahrain - Khubz

For Bahrain, I made Khubz, a flat bread similar to pita bread. A very simple recipe, it makes a great companion to rice dishes, or can be used as you would a pita.

Khubz

INGREDIENTS:

  • 18 oz Bread flour

  • 1/3 oz Dry baker's yeast

  • 1 1/4 cup Water

  • pinch sugar

  • pinch salt

  • 2 tbsp oil

METHOD:

  1. Dissolve the yeast with sugar in 1/2 cup of warm water. Let stand for 10 minutes.

  2. Add the yeast to the sifted flour, add salt and knead until soft. Add water if needed. Add vegetable oil and knead until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. 

  3. Form a dough ball, cover with a cloth and let rise in a warm place. The dough has to double in size.

        4. Preheat the oven, put the oiled baking sheet in the oven for 10 minutes. Then place the dough balls on baking sheet and bake for 8/10 min. until golden. Take them out and let cool.
